Happy Anniversary to Us
Not a lot of people know this given we launched publicly in March…but Big Band Software was officially organized on December 1, 2022! It has been a rewarding and enlightening ride, and as we are gearing up for an exciting year's end, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on how far we have come in this first year. Although it appears to be a small and mighty team behind it all, the size of the Band that contributes to our success is massive and growing everyday.
In light of Thanksgiving this year, the Band wants to extend our gratitude to all who have contributed to our first successful year:
To all of our business partners and investors who make our mission possible, we are grateful for your support and trust in us.
To our families and friends who encourage us every day along our journey, we could not do this without you.
To anyone following our success via our newsletter and socials, we really do appreciate the support and we read every email or DM that comes our way.
To founders who have trusted us to be the next stewards of their business, there is no greater validation to what we are doing than your trust.
We are incredibly grateful for the momentum that all of you have helped us to gain this year. The band is hard at work, close to announcing more exciting news, and we could not do it without you all. We are just getting warmed up!
ANNUAL EXIT PLANNING
We’ve put together a must-do exercise for Founders - Annual Exit Planning. This workbook will walk you through the various steps and questions you need to answer and document in order to get better prepared to sell your business. Grab the file, find some time work through it, and get in touch if we can help you think through any of the components along the way!
THE PLAYLIST (What We're Watching, Reading, and Listening to)
Openview’s 2023 SaaS Benchmarks Report- A must read for anyone building or operating a SaaS. Over 50% of the respondents had ARR < $5MM, making these benchmarks very relevant to our audience. With Y/Y growth rates declining across the board it is not surprising that Founders are most worried about ‘Go-to market execution’, ‘Product execution’, and ‘Burning too much cash’. Efficiency remains the name of the game as companies with $1 to $5MM in ARR had a median ‘Rule of 40’ of 45%.
Big Band partner Dan Martell tweets (do we still say that?) about the opportunity cost of being “too busy” or “too comfortable”
After chatting with 100s of entrepreneurs in the DMs..
Here’s what holds 95% of them back from achieving their greatness.
They live in a self-created prison.
Always “thinking”...
Thinking about making a change…
Thinking about “the best” solution to solve their problems…… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

#4 Marquette Routs Top Ranked Kansas - This one got a little personal (and fun!) with alumni of both schools on the Big Band team. This was Kevin’s opportunity to gloat - we hope he enjoys it while it lasts and we’ll check back in April to see what team comes out victorious when it counts.
UPCOMING IRL GIGS
The Band is taking a much needed break from the road to spend some time in their respective home states to ring in the New Year and celebrate the holidays!
